Two Maoists killed in encounter with security forces in Odisha’s Kandhamal; operation still underway

Bhubaneswar, June 30: Two Maoists were gunned down in a fierce exchange of fire with security forces in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Monday. The encounter took place in the dense forest region of Indrisuga hill, located under Baliguda police station limits in Gumikia panchayat.
According to official sources, a joint anti-Maoist operation was being carried out by personnel from the Special Operation Group (SOG), District Voluntary Force (DVF), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The operation was launched based on intelligence inputs about Maoist movement in the area. While combing the region, the Maoists opened fire on the security personnel, prompting a swift and retaliatory response.
In the ensuing gun battle, two Maoists were killed on the spot. Security forces have also recovered weapons and other Maoist materials from the encounter site. However, the identities of the deceased rebels are yet to be confirmed.
As of the latest reports, the operation is still underway, and additional reinforcements have been rushed to the area. Senior police officials are monitoring the situation closely, as combing operations continue to flush out any remaining Maoist presence.
