Odisha Govt deploys Chief Engineer to monitor flood situation in Subarnarekha and Budhabalanga basins

Bhubaneswar, June 29: As heavy rainfall continues to aggravate flood conditions in the Subarnarekha and Budhabalanga river basins, the Odisha government has intensified its flood management efforts. The Water Resources Department has issued a directive for immediate on-ground action to safeguard affected regions.
Chief Engineer (Drainage) Abinash Roul has been directed to proceed without delay to Balasore headquarters to closely oversee the flood situation. Roul will be responsible for monitoring water levels in the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalaka rivers and coordinating with district officials, field-level engineers, and local administrations for effective flood mitigation and response.
“In view of the flood situation in Subarnarekha and Budhabalanga basins, Odisha, Sri Abinash Roul, CE, Drainage (Mob No. 9437034763), shall move to Balasore headquarters immediately,” the official order stated. “He will interact with field officers, as well as district and local administrations, for smooth flood management.”
Additionally, engineers from drainage and canal divisions in Bhadrak, Balasore, and Morada have been instructed to report to Roul and provide full support in implementing emergency flood control measures to protect life and property.
