BMC Additional Commissioner assaulted during grievance hearing; staff stage protest, probe underway

Bhubaneswar, June 30: Tension erupted at the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) office on Monday after Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahu was allegedly assaulted by a group of individuals during a public grievance hearing. The incident occurred around 11:30 AM while Sahu was addressing public complaints in his chamber.
According to Sahu, a group of five to six individuals, including BMC corporator Jiban Rout, barged into his office and confronted him over an alleged misbehavior with one "Jaga Bhai." When Sahu denied the accusation, the group allegedly began abusing and physically assaulting him. He claimed that the assailants grabbed his collar, dragged him out of his office chamber, and attempted to forcibly take him away in their vehicle.
Following the assault, all BMC employees staged a cease-work protest, demanding strict action against the attackers. BMC Mayor Sulochana Das condemned the incident in strong terms and called for immediate action.
Upon receiving information, the Kharavela Nagar Police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the BMC premises is being reviewed to identify the culprits. The situation remains tense but under control as the probe continues.
