Cyclonic circulation likely over Bengal; IMD issues heavy rain alert for north Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 23: A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas by June 25, with the potential to develop into a low-pressure system. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for northern Odisha districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall on June 25 and 26.
Weather expert Sarat Sahu has indicated that this developing system could bring widespread rainfall to northern and coastal Odisha. While the exact intensity of the system remains uncertain, preparations are underway in view of possible adverse weather.
According to the IMD's forecast for today, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds (30–40 kmph) are very likely in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, along with heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Similar weather is also expected in several districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Angul, and others across the state.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall in Jharkhand has worsened the flood situation in Odisha’s Balasore district. Overflow from the Galudih area has entered the Subarnarekha River, submerging parts of Jaleswar, Basta, Baliapal, and Bhograi blocks, affecting thousands of residents.
