Gopalpur gangrape survivor identifies six accused in TI parade, Crime Branch intensifies probe

Bhubaneswar, June 21: In a significant development in the Gopalpur gangrape case, the survivor has identified six of the accused during a Test Identification (TI) parade conducted by the Crime Branch at Berhampur Central Jail. The TI parade was held under the supervision of a magistrate and was also witnessed by the survivor’s male companion, who was present during the assault and is a key eyewitness.
According to Crime Branch sources, the identification strengthens the case against the adult suspects. Meanwhile, the police have sought court permission to include the four arrested minors in a separate TI parade.
The heinous crime occurred on the Gopalpur beach last Sunday night, when a 20-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by three individuals from a group of ten. The Odisha DGP, YB Khurania, classified the case as a ‘Red Flag’ incident and transferred the investigation to the CID Crime Branch.
The Crime Branch team has since seized eight mobile phones, gathered key evidence, recorded witness statements, and registered a fresh FIR after taking charge from the Gopalpur police. Investigations are ongoing.
