Titlagarh police rescue newborn baby girl sold by parents in Bargarh district

Bhubaneswar, July 28: In a prompt and coordinated operation, the Titlagarh police, in collaboration with Paikmal police and the District Child Protection Officer, successfully rescued a newborn baby girl who had been allegedly sold by her parents due to financial distress. The incident took place in Bagader village under Titlagarh police limits in Odisha’s Bargarh district.
The biological parents, Neel Rana and Kanak Rana, were reportedly struggling with severe poverty. Neel already had three daughters from his first marriage. Following marital disputes, his first wife left him and returned to her parental home. After remarrying, Neel and his second wife Kanak had another daughter. Facing acute financial difficulties, the couple allegedly decided to sell their newborn for Rs 20,000.
Acting on a tip-off, the police and child protection officials quickly intervened and rescued the infant from the buyers. The baby is now in safe custody and receiving necessary care.
During interrogation, the couple confessed to the act. A formal investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances of the sale, and authorities have assured strict action to protect the child’s welfare and bring those involved to justice.
