Bhubaneswar, July 29: A young man identified as D Ram Murti, a resident of Nua Sahi near Chakratirtha Road in Puri, died under mysterious circumstances at a de-addiction centre, triggering allegations of foul play and public outrage. The incident took place at the Right Future de-addiction centre located near Mangarajpur Chowk under Puri Sadar police limits.

Ram Murti was admitted to the centre on July 23 for treatment, but just a day later, on July 24, his family received the shocking news of his death. Disturbed by the sudden development, family members alleged that Ram Murti was brutally beaten to death while in the custody of the centre’s staff.

Demanding justice, the grieving family staged a protest in front of the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP), Puri, urging immediate action against those responsible. They called for a thorough investigation and strict punishment for the accused.

The Sadar police have seized the body and registered a case. “The cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report. Meanwhile, the owner of the de-addiction centre has been summoned for interrogation,” said the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO).
