Odisha Vigilance arrests Junior Engineer in massive disproportionate assets case

Bhubaneswar, May 24: Odisha Vigilance on Saturday arrested Susanta Kumar Sethy, a Junior Engineer in the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department at Khariar under the Nuapada R&B Division, on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Sethy is set to be produced before the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar today. The arrest has been made in connection with Vigilance Cell PS Case No. 05/2025.
According to an official release, raids conducted at multiple locations linked to Sethy uncovered significant wealth that raised serious red flags. The seized assets include three multi-storeyed buildings, a farmhouse, nine high-value land plots, and two luxury vehicles—one suspected to be benami. In addition, authorities confiscated Rs 55 lakhs in bank deposits and household articles worth over Rs 14 lakhs.
The investigation also uncovered an attempt by Sethy to hide illegal wealth. He allegedly tried to stash Rs 55 lakhs in cash and 1.4 kilograms of gold in a tenant’s residence to escape scrutiny. His wife later filed FIR No. 93/2024 at Dhouli Police Station, accusing the tenant of concealing these assets. Police are currently probing the matter further.
