Odisha Govt to install CCTV cameras in all schools, focuses on student safety and gender protection

Bhubaneswar, July 23: In a significant step towards enhancing student safety, the Odisha government has announced its decision to install CCTV cameras in all schools across the state. The move comes in alignment with the safety norms followed by CBSE-affiliated institutions.
School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond revealed that the government is working towards immediate implementation of the initiative, aimed at creating a secure and transparent learning environment for students. “We are actively discussing the plan and moving ahead with its execution,” the minister said.
In addition to CCTV surveillance, the government has also directed the formation of Internal Complaints Committees (ICC) in every school, in accordance with the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, to address incidents of sexual harassment and gender-based discrimination.
Minister Gond emphasized that the safety and empowerment of women and children remain top priorities for the state. Dedicated helpline numbers have been set up for students to report grievances, which will be addressed promptly. A final decision will be made after inter-departmental consultations and state cabinet approval. The CBSE already mandates CCTV systems under its School Safety guidelines.
