Three hockey coaches arrested in Jajpur for alleged sexual assault of minor sportsperson

Bhubaneswar : Police in Jajpur have arrested three hockey coaches in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a minor female sportsperson, a case that has taken a decisive turn following the victim's courageous complaint. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sandeep Swain, Sagar Nayak, and Sarthak Mohanty, all hailing from Cuttack district.
The disturbing ordeal came to light late on July 20th when the young athlete approached the Jajpur Town Police Station around 11 PM. In her harrowing account, she detailed two separate incidents of alleged assault.
The first alleged attack reportedly took place in March while she was attending a sports event in Rourkela, where coach Sandeep Swain, from Odapada (Kishannagar police station area), is accused of raping her.
Tragically, the survivor's ordeal allegedly continued on the evening of July 3rd. According to her complaint, Swain allegedly facilitated her abduction by fellow coaches Sagar Nayak (Hulipur, Kishannagar police limits) and Sarthak Mohanty (Mallikapur, Nemalo police limits). The duo reportedly took her on a motorcycle to a local hotel where they physically harassed her and attempted rape. Her frantic screams alerted hotel staff, whose intervention by knocking on the room door allowed her to escape.
Responding swiftly to her testimony, police initially detained four individuals for interrogation. While Siddhant Raut (alias Chintu) of Ramchandrapur was questioned and subsequently released after evidence collection, Swain, Nayak, and Mohanty were formally arrested. All three accused underwent medical examinations at the Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital.
