Coastal security tightened in Odisha following Pahalgam terror attack

Bhubaneswar, April 29: In the aftermath of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, security measures have been intensified along the coastal stretches of Odisha as a preventive step to counter any potential threats.
As part of the heightened vigilance, joint patrolling is being carried out by the Indian Navy and the marine police under the Astaranga marine police jurisdiction, with special focus near the Devi river mouth. Patrolling teams are actively conducting identity checks on fishermen and scrutinizing movement in the area.
“We have ramped up security on the directions of the state government and higher authorities,” said an Astaranga Marine Police official. “Regular patrols are underway, and we’re closely verifying identity documents, including Aadhaar cards, especially of those onboard unknown or suspicious boats.”
Fishermen have been issued security advisories and are being briefed on protocols. They have been urged to report any suspicious individuals, boats, or movements without delay.
Coastal police are maintaining a high alert status across all sensitive maritime zones in Odisha to ensure public safety and thwart any possible intrusion.
