Sambalpur University student found injured, assault by group of 15 suspected

Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: A female student of Sambalpur University was found in a blood-soaked state inside a dilapidated house near the university campus early Thursday morning. The shocking incident has sparked outrage among students and raised concerns over campus safety.
According to reports, the student was allegedly attacked by a group of 15 individuals near a tea stall, located about 300 meters from the university. Witnesses claim that she was lured to the spot by someone she knew and then brutally assaulted, suffering severe head injuries after reportedly being hit with stones.
Upon receiving information, police rushed to the scene and immediately shifted the victim to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMSAR), Burla. A CT scan was conducted, confirming serious head injuries, but medical examinations ruled out any sexual assault.
Meanwhile, Sambalpur police have detained two suspects and launched a search operation for other possible culprits. The victim has now been shifted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for advanced medical care.
While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, initial suspicions suggest a deliberate targeting. The incident has triggered widespread protests from university students, who are demanding swift justice and enhanced security measures on campus.
