Fresh ragging allegations surface at VIMSAR, probe ordered

Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: Ragging allegations have once again surfaced at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), with a second-year student accusing his seniors of verbal abuse and physical harassment.
According to reports, a group of third-year students allegedly assaulted and abused the junior student on February 7. The matter came to light after the victim narrated his ordeal to his mother, who subsequently informed VIMSAR Dean Professor Pradeep Kumar Mohanty over the phone.
Acting on the complaint, Prof. Mohanty immediately formed a committee to investigate the matter and recommend necessary action if the allegations are proven true. Speaking to the media, the dean confirmed receiving the complaint and assured that strict action would be taken following the inquiry.
However, no formal written complaint has been lodged by the student or his family members so far.
This is not the first time VIMSAR has been embroiled in ragging controversies. Similar incidents were reported in March 2021 and September 2019, despite strict anti-ragging regulations in place. Authorities continue to struggle in completely eradicating such incidents from the institution.
