Group clash in Banki leaves several injured; police investigate

Bhubaneswar, Jan 11: Tension gripped the Bhagipur area in Banki, Cuttack district, on Saturday morning following a violent clash between two groups from neighboring localities. The altercation escalated into stone-pelting and a full-blown brawl, leaving at least four people seriously injured.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fight involved the use of stones, glass bottles, and wooden sticks. While the exact cause remains uncertain, sources suggest the conflict stemmed from an incident on Friday evening, when a group of youths allegedly demanded toll money from passing vehicles on the Cuttack-Banki Road. The situation escalated into arguments and chaos.

Efforts by village elders to mediate the dispute on Saturday morning reportedly failed, triggering a verbal altercation that quickly spiraled into violence.

Police were alerted and arrived at the scene to restore order. They have begun an investigation into the incident, but no arrests have been made so far. The situation remains tense, with security personnel deployed to prevent further escalation.
