Farmers in Odisha get relief as crop loss reporting deadline extended

Bhubaneswar, Dec 30: The Odisha government has extended the deadline for farmers to report crop damage caused by unseasonal rains during the last week and claim compensation to January 1, 2025.
Initially, the deadline for reporting crop loss was set for December 29, later extended by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to December 31. On Monday, the government further extended it to January 1 to accommodate more affected farmers.
The state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Majhi, has been actively addressing the challenges faced by farmers due to the unseasonal rains. The Chief Minister visited Nayagarh, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts to assess the damage, while other ministers also inspected affected areas.
A press release issued on Monday confirmed that both insured and uninsured farmers will receive assistance. Following the Chief Minister's request, the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment granted an extension for the reporting period.
Chief Minister Majhi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan for their supportive stance towards Odisha's farmers.
