Restoration efforts begin as cyclone Dana weakens over north coastal Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: Cyclone Dana made landfall on Friday morning, weakening into a cyclonic storm soon after, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported. The storm crossed the northern Odisha coast near Habalikhati Nature Camp in Bhitarkanika and Dhamara between 1:30 AM and 3:30 AM IST, with wind speeds ranging from 100 to 110 kmph.
After landfall, the storm weakened over north coastal Odisha and is expected to gradually reduce to a deep depression as it moves northwest in the next six hours, according to the IMD’s latest bulletin.
The cyclone caused significant damage in Kendrapara and Bhadrak districts, where many trees and electric poles were uprooted, disrupting power and road connectivity. Restoration efforts are currently underway, with teams from the Fire Services, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) working on the ground to clear debris and restore essential services in the affected areas.
