Odisha's new BJP government pledges metro project to ease twin city traffic

Bhubaneswar, June 25: The new BJP government announced on Tuesday its commitment to implementing a metro project aimed at alleviating chronic traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, indicated that the state would seek support from the Union Government following a review of the State Budget to kickstart the project.
"The double-engine government (BJP governments at both the Centre and in the State) will fully back Odisha. The metro project is substantial, and detailed discussions will soon determine its initiation during the rainy season," stated the Minister.
Mohapatra also hinted at the government's intentions to streamline the traffic system, proposing the removal of traffic signals and the introduction of enhanced traffic management measures.
"We aim to eliminate prolonged waits at intersections by introducing an alternative system similar to those used on over-bridges and approach roads. Department-level discussions on this initiative will commence shortly," the Minister added.
