Odisha swelters under relentless heatwave: Balasore records highest temperature in 2024

Bhubaneswar, April 30: A scorching heatwave continues to grip Odisha, with Balasore registering the highest temperature of the year 2024. According to the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Balasore reached a blistering 46 degrees Celsius at 2:30 pm.
Simultaneously, the capital city of Bhubaneswar saw its mercury soar to 45.4 degrees Celsius at the same time, marking the first instance in 2024 when Bhubaneswar surpassed the 45-degree mark.
Other cities experienced similar searing temperatures, with Jharsuguda at 44.2 degrees, Chandbali at 43.6 degrees, and Rourkela, Sambalpur, and Keonjhar recording 43.2, 43.2, and 43 degrees Celsius, respectively, by 2:30 pm.
In response to the intense weather conditions, the IMD issued a red warning for three cities—Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Balasore. Additionally, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued a red warning for districts including Khurda, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Angul, and Cuttack.
Furthermore, an orange alert for heatwave conditions has been issued for districts including Sambalpur, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur, Deogarh, Nuapada, Sundergarh, Rayagada, and Jharsuguda.
