Committee mulls endoscopy of Ratna Bhandar during Ratha Yatra

Puri, March 9: Justice Arijit Pasayat, the Chairman of the Ratna Bhandar committee, disclosed plans for a potential endoscopy of the inner treasury during the upcoming Ratha Yatra to conduct a thorough inventory.
Following the inaugural meeting of the panel, Justice Pasayat revealed discussions centered on various facets of the Ratna Bhandar inventory. The committee also requested access to the 1978 inventory records from the district administration.
"We deliberated on the 1978 inventory, its progression, and the optimal timing for conducting the inventory. Currently, we view the Ratha Yatra as a suitable occasion to access the Ratna Bhandar," stated Pasayat.
Considering the logistical challenges during Snana Purnima, when devotee presence is minimal due to deity rituals, Pasayat proposed leveraging technology, such as cameras, for inventory purposes.
He noted that while inventories were previously conducted in 1926 and 1978, with minor verifications in 1982 and 1985, no significant action has been taken since.
The 12-member committee, appointed by the Odisha Government in compliance with a directive from the Orissa High Court, convened its inaugural meeting. Notably, former Supreme Court Justice Arijit Pasayat serves as the committee's chairman, with renowned cardiologist Dr. Ramakant Panda as its vice-chairman.
