Commissionerate Police dismiss ASI, initiate action against two home guards in bribery case
Bhubaneswar, June 18: In a strong crackdown on corruption, the Commissionerate Police have dismissed an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from service and initiated action against two Home Guards for their alleged involvement in a bribery case. The swift disciplinary measures underscore the police administration’s commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability within the force.
ASI Rajesh Kullu was removed from service with immediate effect after being booked in a Vigilance case for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from an accused person. According to official sources, the bribe was allegedly sought in exchange for facilitating the release of mobile phones seized during the course of an investigation.
The dismissal was carried out under the provisions of Article 311(2)(b) of the Constitution of India, which allows the government to remove a public servant from service without a departmental inquiry under exceptional circumstances.
Apart from the ASI, two Home Guards—Jyotiranjan Behera and Abdul Sarfaraj Khan—have also come under the scanner for their alleged involvement in the case. Authorities have served them one-month notices for termination of their services from the Home Guards organisation.
Senior police officials stated that corruption and malpractice will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The Commissionerate Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against misconduct and warned that strict action would be taken against any personnel found violating service rules or engaging in corrupt practices.
The action has been viewed as a strong message within the police force, reinforcing the administration’s resolve to uphold integrity and public trust. Officials said vigilance against corruption would continue, and exemplary punishment would be ensured for those found guilty of abusing their official position.
