Rajya Sabha MP Debashish Samantaray resigns from BJD, cites marginalisation in party
Bhubaneswar, May 25: In a significant political development in Odisha, Rajya Sabha MP Debashish Samantaray on Monday resigned from the primary membership of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), citing alleged humiliation and marginalisation within the party.
In his resignation letter addressed to BJD president Naveen Patnaik, Samantaray stated that despite his long-standing dedication and commitment to the party, he had recently felt “systematically belittled” and sidelined.
In the letter, the Rajya Sabha member said he had always worked with conviction for the interests of the party but believed that his services were no longer required. Calling it a difficult decision taken in public interest, he requested the party leadership to accept his resignation.
While stepping down from the party’s primary membership, Samantaray also expressed gratitude to Naveen Patnaik for nominating him to the Rajya Sabha. He acknowledged the opportunity given to him to serve the people of the undivided Cuttack district and to raise Odisha-related issues at the national platform.
A senior political leader associated with the BJD for several years, Samantaray’s sudden exit is expected to trigger discussions within Odisha’s political circles. However, he has not yet disclosed his future political plans.
