Yellow warning issued for thunderstorms in 13 Odisha districts
Bhubaneswar, Sep 5: Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds are likely to occur in 13 districts of Odisha on Sunday, September 6, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a Yellow Warning for the affected areas.
According to the IMD’s midday weather bulletin issued on Saturday, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are very likely at one or two places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada districts.
The weather conditions are expected to remain unsettled in these areas, with residents advised to stay alert during periods of thunderstorm and lightning activity. The IMD has also urged people to take necessary precautions and avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during severe weather.
People are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and keep away from open fields, isolated trees, electric poles and other exposed locations. Farmers, commuters and those engaged in outdoor activities have been particularly advised to remain cautious.
The weather department is closely monitoring the situation and may issue further updates depending on the development of weather conditions across the state.
