Bhubaneswar, September 4: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday transferred more than ₹833 crore to the bank accounts of eligible farmers under the state government’s CM-KISAN scheme, providing financial assistance ahead of the Rabi cultivation season.

The latest financial assistance was released through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism, ensuring that the money reaches beneficiaries directly in their bank accounts. Under the latest instalment, eligible beneficiaries receive ₹2,000 each to support agricultural activities and meet essential farming expenses.

The assistance is expected to benefit more than 41 lakh farmers across Odisha. In addition, thousands of landless agricultural families and members of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) have also been included in the assistance programme.

The state-level programme was organised at the OUAT Krushi Shiksha Sadan in Bhubaneswar, where the Chief Minister formally launched the transfer. Speaking on the occasion, Majhi highlighted the state government’s focus on strengthening the agricultural sector and improving the economic condition of farming communities.

The CM-KISAN assistance is intended to provide farmers with timely financial support for the purchase of essential agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and other materials required during cultivation. The government expects the assistance to reduce some of the immediate financial pressure faced by farming households during the crop season.

The latest transfer comes at a time when several parts of Odisha have been affected by floods and adverse weather conditions. Recognising the difficulties faced by farmers in flood-affected districts, the Chief Minister also announced a special assistance package of ₹1,000 crore for affected farmers.

The special package will cover farmers from districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Sundargarh. The assistance will be provided after assessment of crop and other agricultural losses by the concerned government departments.

The Chief Minister said the government would continue to work towards protecting farmers’ interests and providing assistance during difficult periods. The administration is also focusing on improving agricultural infrastructure and ensuring that government benefits reach eligible beneficiaries without delays.

The CM-KISAN scheme is one of Odisha’s major initiatives aimed at providing financial assistance to farming families. It works alongside the PM-KISAN scheme of the Union Government, providing additional support to eligible beneficiaries in the state.

Farmers seeking to benefit from the scheme are required to complete the prescribed registration and verification procedures. The government has also emphasised the importance of maintaining updated farmer records and completing the required AgriStack Farmer ID formalities.

The latest release of more than ₹833 crore is expected to provide timely financial relief to lakhs of farming families and support agricultural activities during the upcoming Rabi season. The state government has reiterated that farmer welfare will remain a key priority of its development agenda.
