Bhubaneswar, June 17: In view of the continuing heatwave conditions across the district, the Subarnapur administration has ordered the closure of all educational institutions until June 20, 2026. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to protect students from extreme temperatures and heat-related health risks.

According to an official order issued by the District Collector on June 17, all Anganwadi Centres (AWCs), schools, colleges, technical institutions and other educational establishments in the district will remain closed during the period. The administration said the move was necessary as high temperatures continue to prevail across the region.

Despite the closure of educational institutions, examinations scheduled during this period will be conducted as per the existing timetable. Authorities have directed institutions to hold examinations preferably during the morning hours to minimize students’ exposure to the intense heat during the day.

The district administration has also instructed heads of educational institutions to make adequate arrangements for safe drinking water and ensure the implementation of all necessary heatwave safety measures for students, teachers and staff members attending examinations.

The official notification stated that the closure order would remain in force until June 20 due to the persistent heatwave conditions affecting the district.

The decision comes at a time when several parts of Odisha are experiencing unusually high temperatures. Authorities across the state have been taking precautionary measures to prevent heat-related illnesses, particularly among children and students. Residents have also been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak daytime hours and stay adequately hydrated.
