SJTA seizes 30 packets of unauthorised ghee from Jagannath Temple kitchen, probe launched
Bhubaneswar, June 17: In a major security and quality-control lapse, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) seized 30 packets of unauthorised ghee from the sacred Roshaghara of the Shree Jagannath Temple on Wednesday. The incident has raised serious concerns over attempts to use unapproved ingredients in the preparation of Mahaprasad, one of the temple’s most sacred offerings.
According to sources, security personnel intercepted the consignment during a routine inspection while the ghee packets were allegedly being brought into the temple kitchen. Upon verification, officials found that the packets were not of the approved OMFED brand, which is the only brand authorised for use in the preparation of Mahaprasad.
Temple authorities maintain strict guidelines regarding the ingredients used in the Roshaghara to preserve the purity and sanctity of the offerings. The use or entry of any ghee other than the approved OMFED variety is strictly prohibited within the temple premises.
Following the seizure, the SJTA launched an investigation to identify the Suar Sevak or individuals allegedly involved in bringing the unauthorised ghee into the kitchen. Officials are also examining whether the incident was an isolated attempt or part of a larger conspiracy.
A senior temple official said stringent action would be taken against anyone found responsible for violating temple norms. In the wake of the incident, security checks and monitoring mechanisms inside the temple complex have been further strengthened.
The seizure has sparked concern among devotees and temple authorities alike, highlighting the need for strict vigilance to ensure the authenticity and quality of ingredients used in the preparation of Mahaprasad.
