Odisha Government announces members of panel probing textbook printing errors
Bhubaneswar, June 18: The Odisha government has announced the composition of the high-level committee formed to investigate the widespread printing mistakes found in school textbooks for Classes I to VIII. The move comes amid growing concern over errors that have reportedly affected students and raised questions about the quality control process in textbook publication.
Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Deoranjan Kumar Singh has been appointed as the chairman of the three-member committee. The other members include Bijay Ketan Upadhyay and Smita Pani.
The committee was constituted following directions from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who recently expressed serious concern over the issue during a high-level review meeting. The Chief Minister reportedly took strong note of the errors and directed officials to take immediate corrective measures to prevent inconvenience to students.
The panel has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive inquiry into the printing mistakes, examining the stages at which the lapses occurred and identifying the officials, agencies or organisations responsible for the errors. It will also recommend measures to prevent such incidents in future textbook publications.
The committee has been directed to submit its findings within seven days. Based on the report, the state government is expected to take appropriate action against those found responsible.
The issue has sparked concern among parents, teachers and educationists, as errors in textbooks can directly impact students’ learning. The government has assured that necessary corrections will be made promptly and that strict accountability will be ensured to maintain the quality and credibility of educational materials in the state.
