Massive blaze engulfs Super Mart near Lingipur on Bhubaneswar outskirts
Bhubaneswar, Feb 24: A massive fire broke out at a Super Mart near Lingipur under the jurisdiction of Dhauli Police Station on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar late Monday night, sending flames and thick plumes of smoke high into the sky and triggering panic in the area.
According to reports, the blaze erupted around 10:30 pm and quickly engulfed a large portion of the multi-storey market complex. At least eight fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. Firefighters also deployed a hydraulic platform capable of reaching heights of up to 200 feet to access the upper floors. A special striking fire force has been mobilized, adopting new firefighting strategies to contain the rapidly spreading blaze.
Authorities said a major crack developed in one of the building’s walls, prompting firefighters to attempt controlled breaching to prevent further structural damage. The absence of windows in the building has made access to the upper floors extremely challenging. The fire has already spread up to the fourth floor, raising concerns for nearby shops and houses.
While the exact cause remains under investigation, preliminary reports suggest a possible short circuit.
