BJD will remain Odisha’s voice for 100 years, says Naveen Patnaik on party Foundation Day
Bhubaneswar, Dec 26: Amid speculation over the future of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and its leadership succession, former Chief Minister and party president Naveen Patnaik on Friday firmly asserted that the BJD is and will continue to be the voice of the people of Odisha for the next 100 years. He made the remarks while addressing party workers and leaders during the 29th Foundation Day celebrations held at the BJD headquarters.
Dismissing rumours of internal discord, Patnaik said defeat and victory are integral parts of democracy. He accused certain political forces of spreading misinformation about the party’s stability and unity. “BJD is not about one or two leaders. It is a people’s movement rooted in Odia pride, aspirations and self-respect,” he said, adding that the party’s strength lies in its deep connection with the masses.
Calling the BJD one of India’s most successful regional parties, Patnaik recalled its journey since 1997 under the ideals of Biju Patnaik. He described the party’s 24-year rule from 2000 to 2024 as a “golden era” marked by poverty reduction, improved healthcare through BSKY, empowerment of women, higher farmer incomes, economic growth, investment and job creation. He also questioned the BJP government’s claims of “double engine development.”
