Woman undertrial found dead inside Nimapara Sub-Jail in Puri
Bhubaneswar, Feb 24: A female inmate was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside Nimapara Sub-Jail in Puri district on Monday, triggering tension and allegations of foul play.
The deceased has been identified as Madhusmita Baral, a resident of Delang. She was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in the women’s ward of the jail. While preliminary findings by jail authorities suggest it to be a case of suicide, her family members have alleged that she was murdered and have demanded a thorough investigation.
According to reports, Madhusmita was lodged in the sub-jail in connection with the alleged murder of her minor daughter and was awaiting trial. Jail officials stated that she had lunch with other inmates and was seen sitting in the veranda of the ward shortly before the incident. Within minutes, she was found hanging inside the ward, reportedly using a piece of cloth.
She was immediately rescued and rushed to Nimapara Community Health Centre and later shifted to Puri District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. A post-mortem examination will ascertain the exact cause of death.
