Mother and 10-year-old son found dead in separate canals in Koraput
Bhubaneswar, Feb 24: In a shocking incident that has stunned residents of Borigumma block of Koraput district, the bodies of a woman and her 10-year-old son were recovered from two different canals on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Anuska Parida and her son Ehem Parida. The mother-son duo had been missing since February 21, following which a missing complaint was lodged at the local police station. After days of search, the boy’s body was found stuffed inside a sack near a canal under Kotpad police limits in Jeypore. Hours later, Anuska’s body was recovered from another canal near Jayantgiri.
Police suspect a family dispute may have led to the brutal killings. Preliminary investigation indicates that Anuska and her son had reportedly opposed her daughter’s relationship with a youth. Investigators believe this could have triggered the gruesome crime. The daughter and her alleged lover have been detained for questioning.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Satyabrata Lenka said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and a detailed probe is underway. The incident has sparked outrage in the locality, with residents demanding strict action against those involved.
