Winter Session of Odisha Assembly adjourned sine die after 11 working days
Bhubaneswar, Dec 9: The Winter Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die on Tuesday, bringing an early end to proceedings after only 11 working days. Speaker Surama Padhy made the formal announcement following a motion moved by government Chief Whip Saroj Kumar Pradhan, who stated that no major official business remained. The session, originally scheduled to continue until December 31 with 29 working days, was significantly curtailed.
The session began on November 27 with a historic development—President Droupadi Murmu addressed the House, marking the first time a sitting President of India has delivered an address to the Odisha Assembly. The landmark event was hailed across the state as a proud moment in Odisha’s legislative history.
On November 28, the state government presented a Supplementary Budget of ₹17,440 crore for the financial year 2025–26. The BJP government proposed allocations of ₹13,716 crore for programme expenditure, ₹3,389 crore for administrative spending, ₹171 crore for the disaster response fund, and ₹164 crore as state transfers. The corresponding Appropriation Bill was approved on Monday through a voice vote after detailed discussions.
During the curtailed session, the House also passed six additional Bills, including those aimed at increasing pensions for former legislators and revising the salaries of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, ministers, and MLAs.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Prasanna Acharya, and Congress Legislature Party leader Rama Chandra Kadam thanked all members for their cooperation in ensuring the Assembly functioned smoothly throughout the Winter Session.
