Man arrested for acid attack on neighbour and mother in Kendrapara
Bhubaneswar, Jan 13: In a shocking incident arising from a long-standing rivalry, a man allegedly attacked his neighbour and the neighbour’s mother with acid in the Pattamundai area of Kendrapara district, leaving both critically injured. The incident occurred on Monday in Bachara village under the jurisdiction of Pattamundai Adarsha Police Station.
According to sources, the accused has been identified as Bijay Sahu, while the victims are Rabindra Sahu and his elderly mother, residents of the same village. The two families reportedly had an ongoing dispute over house construction, which escalated into a heated argument and physical clash.
During the confrontation, Bijay allegedly lost his temper and threw acid on Rabindra. When Rabindra’s mother rushed to rescue her son, she too became a victim of the acid attack. The accused is also said to have chased the injured duo with a sword, creating panic among villagers.
Locals rushed to the spot after hearing their screams and shifted them to Pattamundai Sub-Divisional Health Centre. Due to their critical condition, they were later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Police reached the spot, detained the accused, and launched an investigation. Statements of witnesses are being recorded, and further action will follow based on findings.
