Massive fire breaks out at Jharsuguda railway station, services disrupted
Bhubaneswar, Jan 13: A massive fire broke out at Jharsuguda railway station at around 11 am on Monday, triggering panic among passengers and staff. Preliminary reports suggest that the blaze was caused by a short circuit in the air-conditioning system. Within minutes, thick smoke engulfed the station premises, forcing authorities to evacuate passengers from the platforms to ensure their safety.
Fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and are engaged in efforts to bring the situation under control. Personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and Jharsuguda district police are actively managing the situation and assisting in crowd control and rescue operations.
The fire has severely disrupted the station’s power supply. Key areas, including the ticket counter, station master’s chamber, and DTC chamber, have reportedly suffered damage. However, the exact extent of the losses is yet to be officially assessed.
Due to the incident, train services from Jharsuguda station have been affected and are likely to remain suspended until the situation is fully normalised and electrical communication systems are restored. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and further updates are awaited.
