Three detained in Bhadrak for alleged sale of one-month-old baby girl

Bhubaneswar, Jan 13: Police on Tuesday detained three persons in connection with the alleged sale of a one-month-old baby girl from Bayabanapur village under Bhandaripokhari police station limits in Bhadrak district. The action was taken following a complaint lodged by the infant’s grandmother, Sabitri Das, who accused her son Sipu Das and his wife of selling her granddaughter.

According to the complaint, the couple had taken the newborn to a hospital on Monday and later visited another location. However, when they returned home late at night without the baby, Sabitri Das grew suspicious. She alleged that when she questioned them about the child’s whereabouts, they abused her verbally and even tried to assault her.

Disturbed by their behavior and fearing the worst, Sabitri approached the Bhandaripokhari police station and filed a formal complaint. Acting promptly, police rushed to the village and detained Sipu Das, his wife, and his mother-in-law for questioning.

Police officials said the matter is being investigated thoroughly to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
