Class IV student found chained in Balasore school hostel; district administration orders probe
Bhubaneswar, Dec 4: In a deeply shocking incident from Nilgiri block in Balasore district, a Class IV student was discovered chained by the leg inside the hostel of Begunia Primary School. A video capturing the child, identified as Malaya, with an iron shackle fastened to his leg has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage and concern over the safety of students in government hostels.
According to initial reports, the school’s peon, Bhagwan Singh, allegedly chained the child as a form of punishment for his repeated mischief. The disturbing visuals came to light after assistant teacher Jitendra Parida recorded the video and circulated it online. School authorities, however, have accused Parida of deliberately attempting to damage the institution’s reputation.
The matter soon reached Balasore MP Pratap Sarangi, who promptly directed the district administration to initiate a detailed inquiry. Acting on his instructions, officials have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Headmaster Raghunath Bugudai has acknowledged that the incident is genuine but claimed he was away attending a Differently-Abled Fair at Sujangarh when it occurred. The school administration is now working to ascertain the exact sequence of events and determine responsibility, while ensuring such unacceptable practices are not repeated.
