Severe cold wave sweeps Odisha as temperatures dip below 10°C in several districts
Bhubaneswar, Nov 28: A sharp fall in temperatures over the last two to three days has tightened the grip of cold wave conditions across Odisha. Residents in many parts of the state are experiencing biting cold as the minimum temperature has plummeted below 10°C in several locations. The persistent drop in night temperatures has intensified winter conditions, especially in interior and hilly regions.
According to official data, six places in Odisha recorded temperatures below 10°C on Thursday. G. Udayagiri remained the coldest at 7.4°C, followed by Rourkela at 7.7°C, Jharsuguda at 8.1°C, Semiliguda at 8.6°C, Korei at 9.3°C, and Daringbadi at 9.5°C. The widespread fall in temperature has started affecting normal life, with early morning activities slowing down and dense fog reported in some regions.
Meteorological officials have predicted that the minimum temperature is likely to dip further by 2–3°C over the next two days, worsening the cold wave conditions. However, a gradual rise of 2–3°C is expected thereafter over the subsequent five days as conditions begin to stabilize.
Authorities have advised people to take precautions, especially during early mornings and late nights, as cold weather is likely to persist for a few more days.
