High-tech drone deployed at Dhamara Marine Police Station to curb Bangladeshi infiltration
Bhubaneswar, Nov 12: In a major boost to coastal security, the Odisha government has provided an advanced drone camera worth ₹1.33 crore to the Dhamara Marine Police Station in Bhadrak district to strengthen surveillance and prevent Bangladeshi infiltration.
The state-of-the-art drone was handed over to the marine police by the Odisha Police Headquarters, Bhubaneswar, under the supervision of the Bhadrak Superintendent of Police. The equipment, weighing around 8 kilograms, is capable of detecting infiltrators within a 15-kilometre radius. It can capture high-resolution images from an altitude of 400 metres at night and up to 1 kilometre during the day, with a flight endurance of two hours and the ability to ascend 1,000 metres within minutes.
Marine Police officials are using the drone to patrol the Dhamara port region and surrounding coastal stretches, where fishing boats often venture deep into the sea. Daily patrols lasting up to eight hours are being conducted using both boats and trawlers.
According to drone operator Benudhar Mallick, the new technology will be a game-changer in detecting infiltration, tracking suspicious movements, and curbing illegal activities, particularly during nighttime operations.
