Odisha on high alert as Cyclone Montha approaches; government ensures full preparedness
Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: The Odisha government has gone on high alert as Cyclone Montha is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds across the state from October 27 to 29. Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari reviewed the preparedness measures and assured that the administration is fully equipped to handle any situation arising from the impending cyclone.
According to the minister, the depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 27, potentially impacting 15 districts, especially those in the southern and coastal regions. Departments such as Water Resources, Panchayati Raj, Agriculture, and Energy have been put on high alert to minimize risks.
“Even if Cyclone Montha changes its course, we are ready. We’ve made all arrangements to ensure people’s safety and provide food to those stranded in waterlogged areas,” Pujari stated.
The minister further informed that fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea, and those already fishing have been asked to return immediately. Relief centers and evacuation plans have been arranged for vulnerable areas, while the public has been advised to stay away from seashores and follow IMD updates closely.
