Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: A 22-year-old youth from Balangir district has gone missing after sending a heartbreaking message to his mother, expressing his intention to end his life by jumping into the Burla canal. The youth, identified as Sourav Sambit Tripathy of Mahalakhmi Nagar, Balangir, reportedly took the extreme step as he could not bear to see his mother suffer from cancer.

On the evening of October 22, Sourav texted his mother—who is undergoing treatment at VIMSAR, Burla—saying, “Mom, I can’t bear to see you suffer… I’ll end my life by jumping into the Burla canal.” Shocked by the message, his ailing mother immediately informed other family members, who began a frantic search for him. When their efforts failed, they lodged a missing person report at the Burla police station late at night.

Based on his last mobile location and message, a joint team of police and fire services personnel launched a search operation in the Burla canal, starting from Vishnu Mandir Ghat and extending downstream. As of the latest reports, Sourav remains untraceable, and search operations are continuing.
