Cuttack violence: 83 youth detained as police use AI to track rioters from social media

Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: In a major crackdown following the recent Dargha Bazar violence during Durga Puja idol immersion, the Cuttack police have detained around 83 youths for questioning. The arrests and detentions come after extensive investigations into videos circulating on social media that captured scenes of arson, vandalism, and stone-pelting at police personnel.
According to reports, the police have deployed advanced AI software to scan hundreds of Instagram and Facebook accounts in search of digital evidence. The technology is helping authorities identify both the rioters and individuals who uploaded or shared the inflammatory videos. Police have also sought assistance from Facebook and Instagram to take down objectionable content promoting violence.
The cyber police and a special squad are meticulously analyzing video footage to pinpoint the key offenders. Based on verified evidence, several arrests have already been made, and more are expected as the investigation progresses.
Unconfirmed sources suggest the total number of arrests could exceed 20. Officials have reiterated that no one involved in the violence will be spared, and multiple cases have been registered across several police stations, including the Cyber Police Station.
