Former Subhadra scheme beneficiaries eligible for old-age pensions under MBPY, NSAP
Bhubaneswar, Sept 18: The Odisha government has clarified that former beneficiaries of the Subhadra Scheme can apply for old-age pensions under the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY) and the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) once they attain 60 years of age.
According to the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD), such applications will be considered only if the applicants fulfill the eligibility criteria laid down in the scheme guidelines and subject to the availability of vacancies for sanction. The government also made it clear that no special provisions or exemptions will be granted to former Subhadra Scheme beneficiaries in the pension process.
In an official communication to the Women and Child Development Department, SSEPD stated that the state, within its economic capacity, provides social security pensions to vulnerable groups including the elderly, widows, persons with disabilities, and families that lose their breadwinners. It noted that while ex-beneficiaries of the Subhadra Scheme have already received government benefits, priority may go to more aged or needier applicants still waiting for support.
District Social Security Officers have been instructed to extend full cooperation in processing such applications to ensure timely assistance.
