Pre-Cyclone Preparedness Meeting: Cooperation and Coordination Important for Cyclone Management - Chief Secretary
Bhubaneswar: After the monsoon rains, storms form in Odisha towards the end of October. According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, monsoon is likely to return by October 10. Therefore, after this, the possibility of storm formation cannot be avoided, especially in about 45 days. The Odisha government has previous experience and expertise in managing natural disasters like floods and storms. In this context, Chief Secretary Mr. Pradeep Kumar Jena presided over a high-level meeting yesterday and ordered to be alert and ready for possible storms. The Chief Secretary emphasized on the cooperation and coordination of various departments for storm management.
Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Mrs. Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary Revenue Department and Special Relief Commissioner Mr. Satyabrat Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary Power Department Mr. Nikunj Bihari Dhal, DG Fire Service Dr. Chief administrative secretaries, commissioners and administrative secretaries of 12 departments of the state government, including Sudshanshu Shadangi, were present and participated in the discussion.
Mr. HR Viswas , Regional Meteorological Director attended the meeting and informed about the storm warning system in the state. The meeting discussed the preparation of ODRF, NDRF, fire department etc. The chief administrative secretary has ordered to study the condition of the equipments in various organizations and offices and to purchase and prepare new quality equipment where necessary.
The Chief Secretary has directed all the departments to hold a meeting with the officers and employees in their respective departments to study the preparations. He expressed that there is no doubt in relation to the reaction or response of our adverse times in this regard, as in the case of the last incident of railway accident, the coordination of various departments was dealt with. The district administration has been asked to provide prompt assistance when the district administration needs assistance, especially the departments of power, rural development, municipal, water resources etc. Odisha State Disaster Management Authority Managing Director Dr. Gyana Ranjan Das informed about the available resource network and preparation for dealing with violence in Odisha. He informed that the necessary preparations are ongoing in coordination with the Indian Meteorological Department.
