Odisha Govt announces compensation after elephant attack kills three in Dhenkanal; action taken against negligent officials

Bhubaneswar, July 31: In the wake of a tragic elephant attack that claimed three lives in Baghadharia village under the Rasol section of Hindol forest range in Dhenkanal district, the Odisha government has announced compensation for the bereaved families. Forest Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia shared the decision on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed the Forest Department to take immediate action on the matter.
The Minister expressed deep sorrow over the incident, writing, “I am deeply saddened and heartbroken to hear about the death of three people in an elephant attack. I pray to Lord Shri Jagannath for the salvation of the departed souls and extend my condolences to the grieving families.”
Minister Singkhuntia assured that the state will provide ex gratia relief to the next of kin and that strict disciplinary measures will be taken against those found negligent. Acting swiftly, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Dhenkanal has suspended the Forest Guard-in-Charge and the local Forester, attaching them to the Hindol Range pending further disciplinary proceedings.
