GM University Assistant Professor arrested for alleged sexual exploitation of student

Bhubaneswar, July 17: Sambalpur police on Wednesday arrested a 32-year-old Assistant Professor of GM University on charges of sexually exploiting a female student under the false promise of marriage. The accused, Gopikant Suna, who teaches in the Department of Education, was taken into custody following a complaint lodged by the 20-year-old student.
The student, a second-year BA-BEd scholar at the university, approached the Sambalpur Mahila Police Station on July 16 at around 2:36 PM. In her complaint, she alleged that Suna developed a physical relationship with her after repeatedly assuring her of marriage. However, he later backed out, leaving her emotionally devastated.
The alleged incidents took place at Suna’s official residence in the Professor Colony near Budharaja. The student, who currently resides in a rented house in Angulalane, claimed the repeated abuse had severely impacted her mental and emotional well-being.
Based on her detailed complaint, the police registered a case under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and promptly arrested the professor. He was later produced before a local court. Meanwhile, GM University has not yet released any official statement on the matter.
