Patient dies after ambulance breaks down en route to SCB Hospital; family blames delay and oxygen failure

Bhubaneswar, June 13: In a tragic incident, a patient died while being transported from Nischintakoili Community Health Centre (CHC) to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after the ambulance carrying him broke down midway. The deceased has been identified as Pradyumna Panda.
According to reports, the ambulance carrying Pradyumna developed a technical snag near Paga Square. Despite repeated attempts by the driver to fix the issue, the vehicle failed to restart for over an hour. During this critical delay, the patient’s condition reportedly deteriorated. Eventually, Pradyumna was shifted to another 108 ambulance, but by the time he reached SCB Medical College and Hospital, doctors declared him brought dead.
Family members of the deceased have alleged that the ambulance delay and the lack of oxygen supply during the breakdown were the primary causes of his death. The incident has triggered widespread outrage, especially after a video went viral on social media showing the ambulance driver struggling to restart the vehicle.
The incident has raised serious questions about the reliability of emergency medical transport services, and authorities are expected to initiate a probe into the matter.
