ABDO of Dharmasala Block arrested by Vigilance for possessing disproportionate assets

Bhubaneswar, May 16: In a major crackdown on corruption, the Odisha Vigilance Department has arrested Asit Kumar Patra, the Additional Block Development Officer (ABDO) of Dharmasala Block in Jajpur district, for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
During simultaneous raids conducted at multiple locations linked to Patra, Vigilance officials unearthed a staggering amount of wealth. The seized assets include three multi-storeyed buildings, a luxury flat in Cuttack, a commercial shopping complex, five high-value plots, and approximately 700 grams of gold ornaments. Officials also found bank deposits worth ₹65 lakh and ₹1.85 lakh in cash. Patra was reportedly unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for the source of these assets.
Following the recovery, a case has been registered against him under Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 11/2025. Patra is slated to be produced in court today, as the Vigilance Department continues its probe to trace the full extent of his wealth and any possible involvement of other individuals.
The arrest sends a strong message about the state’s commitment to tackling corruption at the grassroots level.
