Odisha strongrooms under tight security ahead of vote counting

Bhubaneswar, June 3: The fates of the Lok Sabha and Assembly constituency candidates will be decided on Tuesday as votes are counted at various centers across Odisha. The Election Commission of India (ECI) is fully prepared for the counting process, which will begin at 8:00 am. EVMs and VVPATs stored in 69 strongrooms throughout the state are being kept under stringent security.
A three-tier security system has been implemented around the strongrooms, which are also under constant CCTV surveillance. To ensure the safety of the voting machines, 25 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed, with police teams conducting round-the-clock patrols outside the strongrooms.
In Bhubaneswar, the EVMs are secured in the strongroom at BJB College, guarded by both CAPF and State Armed Police. In Baripada, a similar three-tier security system is in place, with CAPF, state police, and vigilant candidates and their supporters monitoring the strongrooms.
Meanwhile, the ECI has stressed the importance of maintaining law and order in the state post-election. More than 70 companies of CAPF will be deployed in Odisha until June 6. Initially, 25 companies were assigned to guard the strongrooms and counting centers. Later, an additional 70 companies were decided to be deployed to maintain law and order across Odisha during the post-election period.
