Senior Congress leader Sura Routray returns to party after nine months

Bhubaneswar, Feb 15: Senior Congress leader and former Odisha MLA Sura Routray made a dramatic return to the party on Saturday, ending a nine-month hiatus. His homecoming was marked by an emotional visit to the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) office in Bhubaneswar, where he met newly appointed PCC president Bhakta Charan Das.
Routray, who was expelled from the Congress in April 2024 for alleged indiscipline and anti-party activities, expressed his gratitude to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, and PCC Chief Bhakta Charan Das for facilitating his return. "I have returned home, and I’m extremely happy. Congress Bhawan is my temple, where I have worshipped the ideals of Jawaharlal Nehru since 1962. I am thrilled to be back," he said, visibly emotional.
Addressing party workers, Routray emphasized unity and urged leaders to set aside differences for the greater cause of strengthening the Congress in Odisha. He called for a collective effort to rebuild the party’s grassroots presence, vowing to work relentlessly to revive its influence in the state.
