Police intensify probe into death of Chauliaganj IIC Beauty Mohanty
Bhubaneswar, July 6: Police have intensified the investigation into the death of Chauliaganj Police Station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Beauty Mohanty, with a dedicated team examining all possible angles, including forensic, digital and financial evidence. Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo on Monday appealed to the public not to spread unverified rumours, stating that the investigation is still in its preliminary stage.
Addressing mediapersons, the DCP described the incident as unfortunate and said senior police officers have been supervising the investigation since Mohanty was found hanging inside her official restroom at the Chauliaganj Police Station on Saturday morning.
He informed that an Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and two inspectors are closely monitoring the case. During the initial investigation, scientific experts and police personnel thoroughly searched the premises for documents or handwritten notes but found no suicide note or other relevant material.
Police have seized Mohanty's mobile phone and sent it to the Cyber Forensic Division of the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) for detailed examination. A police team also visited the laboratory to expedite the forensic analysis. Investigators are further examining her bank accounts and financial transactions for possible leads.
The DCP said family members have also been questioned, while the post-mortem report, expected soon, is likely to provide crucial clues. Mohanty had been living alone in her official quarters, while her husband worked in Mumbai.
