PM Modi to unveil Rs 28,978 crore power projects in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Feb 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to unveil power projects totaling Rs 28,978 crore during his upcoming visit to Odisha on February 3.
Among the projects to be dedicated are the NTPC Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station (2x800 MW), NSPCL Rourkela PP-II Expansion Project (1x250 MW), and the foundation stone laying ceremony for the NTPC Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-III (2x660 MW). Sudip Nag, Regional Executive Director of NTPC's Eastern Region I & II, elaborated on these upcoming developmental endeavors during a media briefing.
Situated in Sundargarh district, the Darlipali STPP employs Supercritical Technology to provide cost-effective power to states like Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Sikkim.
The 250 MW project by NTPC-SAIL Power Company Ltd at Rourkela Steel Plant is aimed at bolstering reliable power supply for the steel plant, crucial for economic growth.
Additionally, NTPC is revamping the Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-III, within the premises of the old TTPS plant in Angul district. The new plant, equipped with highly efficient Ultra Super Critical Technology, triples the capacity of its predecessor. While 50% of its output caters to Odisha, other states like Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Assam will also benefit from its low-cost power.
These projects are designed with modern environmental features to minimize Specific Coal Consumption and CO2 emissions. They also foster employment opportunities and enhance physical infrastructure in the region, including roads, drainage, and communication facilities.
Furthermore, NTPC is actively involved in community development initiatives in nearby villages, focusing on education, healthcare, women empowerment, rural sports, and more. Notably, NTPC has established a Medical College cum Hospital in Sundargarh, Odisha, as part of its commitment to the region's well-being.
